About
Bennett specializes in creative solutions for complex business litigation. Knowing that clients can do better than litigation as usual, Bennett uses his successful experience on the nation’s most complicated cases to conceive legal arguments and discovery strategies that resolve cases before trial. For example, Bennett has
- Saved clients more than a billion dollars in claimed damages through work on expert witnesses and summary judgment motions in two antitrust cases;
- Drafted more than 25 successful filings, including successful motions to dismiss, to transfer venue, to compel discovery, to oppose discovery, to exclude expert testimony, to exclude evidence at trial, to oppose class certification, for summary judgment, for preliminary injunction, for final judgment, and to reverse a decision on appeal;
- Led offensive and defensive discovery efforts in cases involving antitrust law, breach of contract, consumer protection, constitutional claims, products liability, and trade secrets; and
- Advised entities large and small on complex issues ranging from the First Amendment to arbitration agreements, cybersecurity, and antitrust law.
His honors include appointment to a federal court’s Merit Selection Panel, recognition as a Super Lawyers Rising Star and Lawdragon 500 Next Generation, and invitation by Law360 to be a regular columnist on the legal industry.
Bennett started his legal career as law clerk to Chief Judge Sidney Fitzwater of the Northern District of Texas, and then as a litigator for eight years with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP.
Bennett received his bachelor’s degree in political philosophy summa cum laude from the University of Dallas, where he played NCAA soccer. He received his law degree summa cum laude from SMU Dedman School of Law, where he served on the SMU Law Review, earned induction into the National Order of Barristers for his success in moot court tournaments, and worked for Fifth Circuit Judge Catharina Haynes and Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Wallace Jefferson.
In the community, Bennett has used his creative thinking to create a mobile app that helps nudge students out of binge using their phones, and to start the fundraising drive Charity Fair for Lawyers. He also serves as President of the St. Thomas More Society of Dallas.
He lives in the Dallas area with his wife Trish, a physician and teacher, and their five children.
